Joe Serwach is Managing Director of Movement Advocate, a division of Organik Consulting, focused on advancing your public case. We develop, build, strengthen and advocate your cause in the court of public opinion. We help you build your brand and deepen relationships, sharpening your message and strengthening your reputation to move you and your organization forward.

MovementAdvocate.com has several business, education, nonprofits and economic development clients. The firm combines strategic communications, advocacy and marketing to help clients build online movements and move the needle toward action goals. Serwach is also co-author of the upcoming book, The Tag Economy.

For the past decade, Serwach has focused on helping nurture and grow brands like Pure Michigan, the University Research Corridor and the University of Michigan. He was an early adopter of social media, blending new communication tools with classic journalism, advocacy and media relations.

Serwach previously served as managing director, communications for the Michigan Economic Development Corp., the State of Michigan's marketing arm for business, talent & jobs and economic growth. Serwach also spent eight years doing higher education strategic communications work, handling media relations and communications for the University Research Corridor, an alliance of the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Wayne State University. He also served as U-M’s state media relations specialist from 2002-2010.

He spent 17 years as a reporter, including reporting jobs for Crain’s Detroit Business, The Harrisburg (Pa.) Patriot-News, the Mrytle Beach Sun News, The Providence Journal and the Chicago Tribune. Serwach was also a site editor for Andersen.com, the global portal for Chicago-based Arthur Andersen LLP.

He received his M.A. from U-M’s Higher Education Administration program with cognates in Management and Organizations and Public Policy in April 2011. He received a bachelor’s in Journalism and History from MSU in June 1987.
