About
I am presently a graduate student in the joint PhD program in Sociology & Women’s Studies at the University of Michigan. My current dissertation research examines the application of the Michigan HIV disclosure law, which requires that HIV-positive people first disclose their HIV-status before having any kind of sexual contact. I recently published an article examining gay men’s bottom identities titled, “Circuits of Power, Circuits of Pleasure: Sexual Scripting in Gay Men’s Bottom Narratives,” which is currently in press at the journal Sexualities and was also awarded the 2009 Sociologist AIDS Network’s Martin Levine Student Essay Award. I have a masters degree in Sexuality Studies from San Francisco State University and I'm presently pursuing a Masters in Public Health while obtaining his PhD at Michigan. My essays on sexuality, HIV, and gay men’s health have been published in numerous publications, including the anthology I edited, “Beyond Masculinity: Essays by Queer Men on Gender & Politics,” which can be read online in its entirety, free of cost. I blog regularly at www.trevorhoppe.com.
